The Gozz - Demo Tracks 1992-1995 - CD

$7.00

Complete studio recordings of this cult Chiba punk band. Active in the heyday of the Chiba punk scene alongside bands like The MARGAReTS, Visible Fucker and the C&C, The Gozz played the typical snotty '77 sound that made that scene great!

Full review by Kichi Vader (Private Scandal Japan Office) below:

The term "Chiba Hardcore" refers to the hardcore bands that were active in Chiba since the mid 80's, "Chiba Punk" refers to the snotty punk rock bands that were active since the early 90's.

Thanks to Private Scandal, the term "Chiba Punk" has become much more widespread, but there are not many punk bands that were actually from Chiba. There a loads of bands that are dubbed "Chiba Punk" because they played a lot in Chiba or had ties with bands from Chiba, despite not actually being from Chiba themselves.

The Gozz, is one of those bands. They were formed in Toride, in the Ibaraki prefecture in the early 90's, but since they were mostly active in Kashiwa, in the Chiba prefecture along with The Dolt (pre.Screaming Noise), they were dubbed "Chiba Punk".

When they first formed, they were playing live in Kashiwa and Motoyawata in Chiba mainly, but around 1993 they started branching out and playing gigs in Tokyo and became part of a crop of new, young bands, playing snotty '77 punk rock alongside bands like Chop (pre.G-3 Punx/Dust Noise) from Kanagawa, and the C&C from Chiba, before they broke up in 1995.

As a side note, all the members of The Gozz were good-looking, particularly the vocalist, Yagi, who was a bit of a heartthrob with the girls because of his bad boy attitude, which made me a bit envious at the time!

They recorded three demo tapes between 1992 and 1995, which have been remastered for this release.

The first demo was released shortly after the band formed, so there a lot of so-so bits, but you can already get a feel for their unique "oriental" style, as they called it then.

The second demo is from the period when Gozz really became active, and for those who knew the band back then, this is typical Gozz!

The third demo was self-recorded shortly before the band broke up, they barely sold any so it's quite rare. It's very different to their early "oriental" sound and not the typical '77 punk sound.

This is the third time I've been involved in a Private Scandal release, and this was the most painstaking, at one point we thought it wouldn't happen, but miraculously, we were able to release it! So please take this chance to hear The Gozz, from Toride (not Chiba) and their evolution.

Gozz Bless You!
