Rixe – Tir Groupé 7"
I’ve seen Rixe a number of times over the years and I’ve always loved them, but live is a different story than their records, which I found great, but not having the “it” that I typically look for in bands at this point in my life to really put a band at the top of the pile. This record however is their first which I think has “it” and totally blew me away upon listening to it. While not completely different than their earlier output, Rixe here stray away from the melodic French skinhead sound (not entirely), and embrace influences undoubtedly rooted in Metal Urbain, one of their country’s finest musical exports. The result is a totally unique and honest record which I can see making waves in terms of trends in punk and oi music. Since I know the General Speech audience is made up of a lot of deep music heads, this record bears similar influences to what birthed the totally unhinged Swiss Skinhead band Discolokosst but doesn’t quite reach that level of drug addled insanity. Still its a remarkable record, that I think is undoubtedly Rixe’s best and certainly most unique so far, and looking forward to what they create with this shift in their sound.
